Como parte del acuerdo, CANON MEDICAL continuará también su colaboración con el BARÇAINNOVATION HUB (BIHUB) para desarrollar innovadoras soluciones en  medicina deportiva que puedan ayudar en la prevención y diagnóstico de lesiones graves tanto dentro como fuera del campo.

Este acuerdo es una prueba de la cooperación tan cercana alcanzada por ambas organizaciones durante los últimos cinco años. Ésta es una colaboración entre dos socios que no solo comparten valores mutuos, sino que también están comprometidos en liderar con soluciones avanzadas el bienestar de la comunidad deportiva y la sociedad en general.

Desde que comenzó la colaboración en 2015 CANON MEDICAL ha suministrado al Centro Médico del FC BARCELONA en las instalaciones de entrenamiento de la Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper un amplio rango de soluciones. Zoetermeer, 9 May 2018 – Canon Medical Systems Europe B.V. (Canon Medical Europe) and Olea Medical have created a software upgrade for Canon’s MRI Systems that will enable faster, more accurate and cost-effective diagnoses with less stress on patients. Launch at The Hive London, home of Barnet Football Club, is a blueprint for national chain of elite diagnostic clinics closer to the community

A unique imaging centre in North London has today officially opened its doors to patients following accreditation from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. The Imaging Centre Limited (TIC) at Barnet Football Club’s Hive Stadium is the first in a series of planned diagnostic centres built to improve community access to CT, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray imaging examinations in a high-calibre environment. It will include the latest advanced imaging equipment from Canon Medical Systems.

Patients can be referred by their GP, NHS or Private Consultant and be scanned within days – much quicker than the non-urgent NHS referral-for-treatment 18-week wait commitment. This will greatly speed up diagnosis, improve clinical decision making and treatment planning, thus reducing the anxiety and frustration experienced by some patients who are concerned by symptoms or experiencing pain. The facility will open 12 hours a day, seven days a week, extending to 24 hours as demand requires. The non-clinical feel to the centre will help draw in nervous patients who may usually decline diagnostic appointments. It will also provide easy and plentiful on-site parking.

TIC will continue to provide imaging examinations to Barnet Football Club players, managing or preventing injuries and optimising training schedules based on individual anatomies. It also offers local cricket, rugby and athletic clubs a discreet imaging facility for sports medicine.

“Skill shortages in the NHS are acute and the demand for innovative imaging scans as a frontline diagnostic test is outstripping capacity at most NHS hospitals,” states Richard Bartlett, Chief Operating Officer at The Imaging Centre. “Our aim with TIC at Barnet Football Club is a blueprint for further community based imaging centres where patients can be seen quickly using the latest technology. Clinicians can swiftly gain access to detailed images and reports that they need to make an accurate and informed diagnosis. Greater imaging capacity across the UK will mean an improved flow of healthcare referrals that support the NHS and improve the overall wellbeing of local communities.”

TIC offers imaging equipment not currently found in other local North London hospitals or clinics. This includes the UK’s first Vantage Galan 3T MRI from Canon Medical Systems which puts patient comfort and highly detailed images for accurate diagnosis at the heart of its design. 3T MRI scanners are known to be extremely noisy but the Galan is the quietest MRI on the market, emitting a 63dB acoustic noise when scanning with its Pianissimo Zen sequences. This is only 2dB above ambient noise from every sequence scanned, significantly lower than the average MRI scanner noise level of 150dB. Patient anxiety is known to be reduced with a quieter scan. The Galan MRI also has a wide and short scanner bore hole for a more pleasant patient experience, which helps to reduce any patient movement, ensuring highly detailed images, which are better for clinical review,  interpretation and diagnosing with clinical confidence. An Aquilion One Genesis Edition CT scanner, Aplio i-series ultrasound scanner and Radrex Digital X-ray, all from Canon Medical Systems are also installed to provide a spectrum of diagnostic imaging tests for most clinical needs.

A fleet of 9 relocatable imaging systems are also part of the TIC business portfolio. Hospitals across the UK can hire the mobile trailers housing Canon Medical Systems’ MRI or CT scanners to scale up imaging to meet demand, or temporarily replace equipment in times of breakdown or maintenance.

Ootawara Japan, March 19, 2018 – From March 2018, Canon Medical Systems Corporation (Headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan; President: Toshio Takiguchi) has initiated collaborative research on the application of Deep Learning Reconstruction (DLR), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technology in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, together with Kumamoto University  and the University of Bordeaux.

An opening ceremony was held on March 5, 2018, at the “Institute of Bioimaging”, the collaborative research facility at the University of Bordeaux.

DLR is a reconstruction technology that eliminates noise from images utilizing deep learning technology. Within this technology, the relationship between noisy and less noisy images are analyzed using a computer generated model, which makes it possible to eliminate noise from newly acquired images. DLR is not only capable of acquiring high resolution images, it also allows ultra-high-resolution images to be acquired more quickly than conventional imaging methods. For these reasons the potential applications of this ultra-high-resolution imaging technology in the clinical setting are attracting a great deal of interest.

In addition, compared with a standard smoothing filter, the noise elimination method employed in DLR causes only a slight reduction in image quality, and signal variation in organ parenchyma is minimized. This not only improves image quality, it also helps to increase accuracy in quantitative analysis, which is easily affected by noise. DLR is therefore considered to be a major technological advance that will dramatically change how MRI examinations are performed in the future.

With regard to this collaborative research, Professor Yasuyuki Yamashita of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Faculty of Life Science, Kumamoto University, commented, “DLR has the potential to transform the conventional concept of MR imaging and is expected to allow the acquisition of super-high-resolution images in a shorter time and contribute to more accurate quantitative analysis.” Professor Vincent Dousset, Institut de Bio-Imagerie Université de Bordeaux, Chef de Service Neuro-Imagerie CHU de Bordeaux, commented, “When DLR is used in combination, the ultra-high-resolution images acquired using the latest 3-T MRI system from Canon Medical Systems (installed last November) are comparable to images acquired using a 7-T MRI system. This suggests that DLR may be able to take the place of some high-field conventional MRI studies.”

VIENNA – Imagine telling your anxious patients that they can have virtual reality experiences while getting an MRI. It’s not a far-off fantasy. It is reality with technology developed by Canon Corp. and Canon Medical Systems and it will be on display during the ECR (European Congress for Radiology), March 2-6, in Vienna.

Canon has been focused on easing MRI stress for quite some time and previously released a 72-cm large-aperture open-bore MRI system with Pianissimo quiet scan technology. This newly developed projection technology expands on that concept and further improves patient comfort while reducing stress during the MRI exam by projecting high-reality images onto a dome-shaped screen.

The semi-transparent dome screen moves in synchronization with the patient table installed inside the bore. Images are projected onto the dome screen and bore cover from a projector installed behind the MRI system from a location that is unaffected by the magnetic field. The images are reflected by a mirror on the patient table, providing a view that helps take the patient’s attention away from the actual examination space.

Canon Corp. developed the core technologies used in the in-vehicle head-up display and ultra-high presence head-mounted display systems. In addition to the center field, where the colors and shapes of objects are processed, image stimulus is applied to the peripheral field, where special depth and width and object movements are processed, achieving high-reality images with a view angle as wide as 60 degrees or more. The images appear as if they were much further away than the bore core, providing an expansive and bright virtual space for the patient. “A virtual reality that substantially improves patient comfort during the procedure”, says Dirk Berneking, Business Unit Manager MRI with Canon Medical Systems Europe. The images can be viewed continuously without changing the image size even as the table moves during the MRI exam.

Combined with noise reduction, this new technology will help make a patient more comfortable and less anxious while in the MRI bore. Canon is striving for early commercial release of this newest MRI feature.

VIENNA – Canon Medical Systems Europe is launching the Innovation 2016 upgrade for the Aplio Platinum line of ultrasound systems – an impressive portfolio of premium features assembled over the past 12 months – and visitors to the ECR (European Congress of Radiology) March 2-6 in Vienna will get a first-hand look and feel at the company’s leading-edge technologies.

Significantly, visualization of microvasculature is improved without the need for contrast agents.

Another important feature is enhanced Smart Fusion imaging on the Aplio 500 Platinum Series combined with the new Real-Time 3D Needle Tracking. The combination can greatly extend a clinic’s ability to respond to increasing demand for biopsies and ablations of tumors. Once the CT or MRI data is loaded into the Aplio system, the image-fusion guided procedure can be performed under real-time ultrasound control in a very convenient and quick set-up wherever a patient can be correctly positioned. There is no longer a need to wait for a theater with an intraoperative CT or MRI when using Smart Fusion imaging and Real-Time 3D Needle Tracking.

Shear Wave Elastography has been integrated into the Aplio Platinum platform, making a significant clinical impact by adding unique features for mapping and quantifying tissue elasticity via shear wave propagation. Clinicians are able to better diagnose and document disease because the new enhancement displays simultaneous views of the shear wave propagation  in a region of interest with the absolute value of elasticity, giving them confidence in the quality and reliability of the exam. In the Innovation 2016 version, shear wave elasticity maps can be measured even in 3D.

In order to fully satisfy the clinical demands, Vantage Titan 3T / iS Edition incorporates the new gradient coil system employed in Saturn Gradient, which enables higher image quality with open-bore MRI systems. It also provides a suite of advanced applications, achieving robust, efficient, and highly accurate examinations in the safe and reliable environments.

Development background

By incorporating innovative RF transmission technique Multi-phase Transmission, Vantage Titan 3T have brought abdomen imaging into the clinical settings, which had been difficult with conventional 3T MRI systems. In order to expand the possibility of 3T MRI systems, the system’s clinical functions are significantly enhanced to provide Intelligent Solutions, which comes from the key system concepts of “Superior and Sophisticated”, “Streamlined”, and “Secure and Serene”. In addition, to meet the market demand for a compact system, the required installation space has been minimized to 36 m2.

Features of the new product

1. “Superior and Sophisticated”

Incorporating both a large-aperture open bore and higher gradient field output increases heat generation and vibration of the gradient coil during image acquisition, adversely affecting image quality. The new gradient coil system employed in Saturn Gradient system, released in November 2014, features high cooling capability and vibration suppression. Shift of the center frequency due to heat generation and signal dispersion due to vibration are suppressed, which results in high SNR. As a result, high-quality images can be acquired consistently. From Vantage Titan 3T / iS Edition, all Canon 3T MRI models employ the new gradient coil system.

In order to satisfy a wider variety of clinical needs, many new applications are installed in the latest software. More flexible parameter edit supported by a new sequence development environment allows full use of the system capabilities, making it possible to scan with UTE (Ultrashort TE). This technique visualizes tissues with an extremely short T2* value, enabling visualization of regions which had been difficult to depict with conventional MRI systems. It expands the capability of MRI examinations to new regions such as the lung fields.

 
2. “Streamlined”

Nowadays, there are growing demands for MRI to increase the number of daily examinations to maximize the system productivity. Canon MRI systems provide the answers to support efficient examinations for a wide variety of body regions. EasyTech, a function to automatically set scan slices by analyzing the shape of the target anatomy, has been enhanced to offer both higher examination throughput and reproducibility. The new EasyTech incorporates the advanced scanning plane positioning function: NeuroLine+ to support head scan, CardioLine+ for cardiac scan, and SpineLine for spinal scan. With CardioLine+, in addition to automatically set six basic cardiac planes, further eight-planes setting become available: right ventricle, valve and outflow tract. The newly installed SUREVOITM Cardiac automatically detects appropriate settings for cardiac examinations by recognizing the position of the heart, providing easier and more efficient workflow with higher reproducibility.

 

3. “Secure and Serene”

The security of medical equipment is now an extremely important issue. Conventional security software programs require regular updating of data in order to provide protection against unknown viruses. Vantage Titan 3T / iS Edition employs Windows® 7 and whitelist-based security software that permits only software programs registered in the whitelist to be executed. Thus the system is protected from unknown viruses and other malicious software, system downtime is reduced, contribution to the spread of infections via networks is averted, and leakage of patient information is prevented*1. Together with Vantage Titan, which is the world’s first 1.5T MRI system to comply with the network security guidelines by the United States Department of Defense, Vantage Titan 3T / iS Edition has received Approval To Operate (ATO) from the United States Air Force*2. Moreover, alert functions for system abnormalities have been strengthened, and a quick reset function for the hardware has been added. These functions, together with the conventional remote maintenance function and various other features, help minimize the system down time.

Environmental considerations

For Vantage Titan 3T / iS Edition, new advanced RF coils become available, which further enhance the system performance. The new Atlas SPEEDER™ Head/Neck incorporates a tilt mechanism that helps imaging of elderly patients and patients with spinal cord injuries, in the past making MRI examination difficult to perform. This feature allows such patients to be positioned in a shorter time and permits them to be examined in a more comfortable position. In addition, 16ch Tx/Rx Knee SPEEDER is also available. This transmit and receive coil provides better image quality for knee, allowing to acquire high-resolution images, which is clinically required for knee examinations. Easy-to-operate locking mechanism is applied to this coil, allowing fine patient positioning and enhance daily throughput.

*1:In the blacklist method generally used at homes and offices, data is required for detecting and eliminating viruses. This data needs to be updated regularly, and periodic scanning of the system is required. These processes apply additional load to the system, affecting system performance. In addition, if updating of the data is neglected, this method does not provide protection for the latest vulnerability issues. On the other hand, in the whitelist method that we have employed, only the programs required for MRI operations (which are registered in the security software) can be executed. Thus updating of virus-related data is not required, and stable operation of the MRI system can be ensured.

*2:It is necessary to set “Advanced Security Setting” to ON.

FC Barcelona and Canon Medical Systems have announced a five-year medical partnership deal. This is the first partnership of its kind agreed with a football club of “La Liga BBVA”.

Festival Medical Services ready to man one of the busiest medical facilities in the country – Over 200,000 festival goers and site workers will result in approximately 4,000 patients during the festival in 2015

Over 500 medical staff prepare to provide care over the period.

Glastonbury, UK. June 17th 2015 – From 24th – 29th June 2015 around 200,000 festival goers and site workers will converge at Glastonbury for the most anticipated music festival of the year.

Each year, a huge number of visitors and support staff continue to push the limits for Festival Medical Services, the charity responsible for providing medical care at Glastonbury. The medical team will serve one of the countries busiest medical facilities during the festival, treating over 4,000 festival goers in 2014, at an average of around 600 patients every day. This year, three local hospitals in Bath, Yeovil and Taunton will take referrals for major injuries.

The field hospital set up includes: two major medical centres for drop-in and ambulance patients, equipped and staffed for minor and major injuries; a 24-hour pharmacy; an emergency dentistry service; a mental health unit, led by consultant psychiatrists; a team of paramedics and first responders who cover the festival site both in 4×4 vehicles and on foot. For major injuries, there is a two-bed resuscitation area directly connected to an ambulance bay as well as a helicopter ambulance facility to provide fast and effective journeys for those needing urgent treatment.

Dr. Mark Regi, consultant vascular interventional radiologist at the Sheffield Vascular Institute heads up the medical imaging team at Glastonbury: “The provision of care at the festival grows more comprehensive each year. It’s important that fast assessment of injury is made to ensure the quickest possible path to treatment is provided. The imaging services save a significant number of transfers to local A&E departments due to the capability on-site. It’s a huge operation for the duration of the festival”.

The shifts at the main medical centres are headed by an A&E doctor, who will work with a team of other specialty doctors working in shifts through the festival. The team is backed up by a team of nurses, physiotherapists and podiatrists. In addition to this, every day, a consultant paediatrician, a surgeon, gynaecology consultant, a consultant radiologist and anaesthetist are available for referrals from the A&E unit as patients are triaged through assessment to treatment quickly and effectively.

Working in partnership with the Festival Medical Services team, the Canon medical ultrasound imaging equipment forms an important part of the services care provision. A 24-hour ultrasound service is manned by a team of six consultant radiologists, all from major teaching units covering a range of sub-specialties. All are on-call over the six-day period and are backed up by a team of radiographers, providing constant and consistent availability for festival goers.

The imaging team usually performs over 20 ultrasounds per festival, using Canon Viamo™ portable ultrasound scanners, which are provided for the festival duration free of charge together with a team to help operate the equipment. Rob Hawkes, Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital helps lead the radiology team during the festival. He comments: “The imaging team provides an important role during the festival. In 2013, we had an unfortunate incident where a festival goer suffered a penetrating chest trauma injury. Having easy and immediate access to the imaging equipment helped save a life with an echo cardiograph showing serious bleeding around the patient’s heart. The story ended well with the patient recovering after emergency stabilising interventions on site and rapid transfer to the regional cardiothoriacic centre. It’s an effective demonstration of the speed with which we can assess and refer quickly for treatment. From a scan taking place to the patient arriving at Bristol Heart Hospital happened within 35 minutes using land, then air ambulance.”

“As well as the patient benefits, there are strong economic reason for an onsite radiology unit. It costs on average £250 for each hospital transfer, not to mention the extra loading on local A&E departments and their radiology departments if we were to refer all patients. The imaging equipment allows us to provide a better service for festival goers through quick and effective on-site assessment and immediate treatment options for minor injuries.”

As well as the extremely rare medical emergencies, the last few festivals have seen emerging trends with regard to the importance of imaging with a growing number of festival goers in early pregnancy who have needed reassurance that their pregnancy remained healthy. Over the past three years the majority of the ultrasound has been of pregnant visitors and that number is growing every year. The women’s health service also includes a gynaecological consultant who works closely with a sonographer. Non urgent scans take place every morning during the festival.

Dr. Hawkes adds: “In terms of the most frequent injuries that require scans on site, the rain and mud have caused a growing number of lower leg fracture injuries over the last couple of festivals. In very muddy conditions, boots become stuck in the mud and festivals goers fall awkwardly causing severe strains or leg breaks at worst”.

Breakthrough innovations in the manufacturing process of CT detectors have resulted in the PUREViSION detector, a detector with 40% more light output than other detectors redefining the standard for low dose imaging. As patient safety should not depend on the hospital size or available scanners Canon has implemented the PUREViSION detector in the complete AquilionTM series, from the Premium Tier Aquilion ONETM /ViSION Edition down to the Low Tier Aquilion /Lightning.

Each PUREViSION detector is cut with precision micro-blade technology from a solid ingot to guarantee the maximum surface area for X-ray absorption. Using low kVp permits a reduction in the volume of contrast medium needed to achieve images of diagnostic quality. While a reduction in radiation and contrast media results in safer patient imaging, the use of less contrast media itself can contribute to a cost reduction for the hospital.

This represents a major step forward in diagnosing coronary artery disease in patients with severe calcium or stents for whom Cardiac CT Angiography was not recommended.

Canon is proud to introduce “SURESubtraction™ Coronary”. This software was developed in close cooperation with the Iwate Medical University in Japan, leading hospitals in the USA and Europe and the European based research center, Canon Medical Visualization Systems.

Severe coronary calcification influences the effectiveness of Coronary CT Angiography in ruling out coronary artery disease. Frequently these patients are referred for invasive angiography because of clinical suspicion of significant coronary artery disease. Stents placed in the coronary arteries can make visualization of the lumen within the stent difficult, hindering the ability to diagnose in-stent restenosis.

SURESubtraction Coronary” removes calcification and stents from the coronary arteries, therefore improving visualization of the coronary lumen. Blooming effects caused by calcification are dramatically reduced.

An added benefit of “SURESubtraction Coronary” is that it can be obtained with a near dose neutral scanning protocol. Coronary Subtraction is performed by subtracting a routine Calcium Score dataset from a Coronary CT Angiography dataset. The Calcium Score scan being used as the non-contrast mask for subtraction.

Atlas based cardiac segmentation and sophisticated rigid and deformable registration algorithms enable accurate subtraction of the coronary arteries to become a reality, leading to improved visualization of the coronary lumen.

The unique capabilities of the wide area detector Aquilion ONETM series are a perfect platform for this ground-breaking new development.

The 16cm z-axis coverage of the Aquilion ONE series allows imaging of the heart in just one rotation, ensuring the scan is performed at the same moment in time, making the registration and subtraction process as simple as possible.

Canon Medical Systems today unveiled the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Imaging Centre. New world class CT, MRI, X-ray and Ultrasound imaging technology powers the medical imaging centre at the Games for 6,500 athletes and team officials from 71 nations and territories across the World.

An Aquilion ONE™ CT scanner – The World’s first dynamic volume CT system will allow the facility medical team to quickly identify and diagnose potentially serious vascular and neurological anomalies. It is the only scanner that is able to acquire volumes of entire organs with a single rotation of the scanner gantry, by using a 320-row detector.

Volumetric acquisition protocols can also be used to review moving joint structures in 3D, providing new clinical applications for orthopaedic imaging.

For cardiac examinations, the entire heart can be captured in as little as one rotation for coronary analysis, or over a single heartbeat to include complete functional diagnosis. Cardiac arrhythmias or heart rates up to 130 bpm are no longer an issue as opposed to helical and multislice CT, meaning that image reconstruction can proceed as planned, allowing greater accuracy of data capture for scans of players who may require enhanced cardiac screening assessments following exercise stress.

Reducing radiation dose is a significant priority for imaging professionals. Canon’s exposure control technology SUREExposure™ 3D calculates the absolute minimum radiation exposure for each patient based on their size and shape. Combined with Canon’s Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction 3D (AIDR 3D) the calculated exposure is automatically reduced by up to 75% compared to a scan performed with traditional filtered back projection. Designed to be the fastest, safest CT scanner in the world, AIDR can be used for player examinations where CT imaging is clinically and ethically justifiable.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA, March 5th, 2014 – The 16-row detector multislice helical CT scanner Astelion /Advance Edition will be available with a speed of 0.6 s per rotation which reduces breath holding time and contrast agent volumes. Faster scanning also provides robust results for a wide range of clinical applications such as Cardiac Calcium Scoring and Lung Volume Analysis by reducing motion artefacts.

A wide range of advanced clinical applications make this compact scanner a powerful workhorse. Simplified operation with Navi mode guides novice operators through every step of an examination. Studies can be performed with confidence in any location at any time of the day and night.

Canon’s unique adaptive iterative dose reduction technology AIDR 3D is a standard feature on all Astelion scanners. This sophisticated reconstruction algorithm can also be found in Canon’s premium level CT systems such as Aquilion ONETM /ViSION EDITION.

AIDR 3D provides dose reduction of up to 75% and can be applied to all clinical scans making CT examinations safer for all patients. AIDR 3D technology allows high-quality images to be acquired with lower X-ray exposure than conventional reconstruction techniques. Consequently, Astelion achieves the equivalent performance as much higher specified generators and X-ray tubes while maintaining excellent image quality.

Canon Medical Visualization Systems (TMVS), based in Edinburgh, on 6th February claimed the prestigious Innovation Award at the 2014 Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Awards. The Advanced Visualization team in Edinburgh has demonstrated numerous innovations, most backed by patents pending, in software engineering for medical image analysis.

The Edinburgh team is part of Canon’s Medical Systems Division, a $4bn global operation; they develop the software that creates3D images from the outputs of medical scanners (such as CT, MRI and Ultrasound). “Xario 200 and Xario 100 are designed to provide top performance in a small package”, says Marcel Boschker, Product Manager of the Xario line in Europe, “together with our Japanese engineers we were listening very carefully to our customers and their demands to meet the challenges of today’s healthcare environment”. Dr. Horst Kinkel, Deputy Chief of the Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Diabetology, Düren Hospital, Germany, confirms ”The Xario excels in consistent top image quality, versatility, flexible workflow, and is very mobile to move within the departments, and within the hospital. Perfect transducers for perfect diagnostics
Xario comes with a range of a new type of wide bandwidth transducers from standard models to specialty probes to deliver superb image quality. “The transducers are very lightweight and feel very easy to handle, with very flexible cables”, Dr. Kinkel confirms, “transducers have a major impact on the image quality that I can obtain and on the way I perform my exams. This is so important for a “workhorse” like the Xario – and in the end it is the patient who benefits most when the exams can be performed smoothly and quickly in the hands of a sonographer who is in harmony with the ultrasound system”.

Reduced keystrokes, shorter exam times
The Xario comes with a fully customizable console. Xario 200 even offers a touch-command-screen to program the system settings and access a wide range of applications and exam types pre-programmed into the system very intuitively and quickly. With Canon’s QuickScan technology available on Xario200 and Xario100 the user can optimize the imaging parameters with a single push of a button for all transducers and application protocols at any time during the exam.

Versatility in every aspect
The Xario can be equipped with dedicated features and options to tailor the system to various clinical specialties. Dr. Rainer Bald, head of the obstetrics department of the Klinikum in Leverkusen, Germany, has worked with the OB/GYN options on the Xario. “The image quality for fetal diagnostics is amazing and comes very close to the Aplio. Advanced Dynamic Flow on the Xario is a very strong feature to enhance Color Doppler Imaging, it helps me a lot in the diagnostics of the fetal heart”, Dr. Bald says.

For cardiovascular applications the Xario comes with a smart on-board reporting functionality, flexible M-Mode, an optional stress-echo program, and Tissue Enhancement function. Dr. Regina Steringer-Mascherbauer head of the Pulmonal Hypertension Department, Clinic for Angiology and Intensive Care at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz, Austria, who has been working with these features, explains “The images are brilliant, Tissue Enhancement works very reliable to push the B-mode image quality to the highest level. Pulse-Wave, Continuous-Wave, and Color-Doppler performance is very competitive. I like in particular the presets and sub-presets on the system to be able to start with optimal settings of the system for every patient. This saves me a lot of time during the exams.”
